THE PARTNERSHIP
As one of the main wine distributors, Globus Wine is represented in all significant Danish retail chains such as COOP, Dansk Supermarked, and SuperGros. Providing solutions for winemakers and importers, Globus Wine has a unique focus on sustainability. It works towards making a minimal impact while supplying its customers with tasty wine goods. It has, for example, cut emissions on transportation by filling all wines on site in Denmark.
In 2021, Globus Wine reached out to SustainX with a wish to portray its sustainability efforts in a CSR Report. This marked the beginning of the partnership in 2021 between SustainX and Globus Wine.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WORK
The first activity in focus was to produce a full CSR Report with collected data from Globus Wine. During the work with the report, SustainX and Globus Wine uncovered other areas with the potential to strengthen its sustainability activities in line with its DNA and future vision.
To set the foundation and ensure that the sustainability efforts were prioritized correctly, a Current State Analysis was performed to understand Globus Wine’s current market position. The Current State Analysis included activities such as Maturity Matrix, PESTEL, ESG Positioning, and Materiality Assessment.
Moreover, to ensure that Globus Wine could track its green journey and have data to benchmark its future sustainable development, SustainX established a CO2 Baseline. Using the Green House Gas Protocol standard, SustainX performed a scope 1 and scope 2 analysis. From a scope 1 and 2 analysis, Globus Wine can understand which current activities have the highest impact on the environment, making data-based decisions on which initiatives to prioritize.
As Globus Wine focus on minimizing the CO2 emissions from its transportation, it was important to understand how much its solution of filling on-site in Denmark reduced the CO2 footprint compared to the traditional way. To understand this, SustainX performed a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), analyzing how much impact their way of transporting had and then made it comparable to the traditional method of transporting bottled wine.
The partnership includes several more activities aiming to strengthen Globus Wine’s sustainability transition and bring them into a front-runner position.
